Measuring roughly 5 miles (8 kilometers) wide, Atafu Atoll is the smallest of three atolls and one island that comprise the Tokelau Islands group located in the southern Pacific Ocean. The political entity of Tokelau is currently a territory of New Zealand. In this picture, taken from the international space station and released April 6, the light blue swirls are coral reefs lying beneath the surface of the atoll's central lagoon.
