On yet another amazingly nice, warm, calm fall day, the first day of October, my friend Jenny and I took a "walk in the woods." I'm pretty sure that after 33 years in Colorado, it was my first time up Young Gulch, a south-side canyon off the Poudre River northwest of Fort Collins. Being down low in a ravine, mostly the scenery was of lush forest. Actually this time of year it was pretty dry, with no running creek, just some small reflecting ponds.

By the numbers: The entire trail goes 4.4 miles uphill one way to end at a private road. We hiked about 2.5 miles up, 5 miles round-trip, 2.03 miles GPS direct from the trailhead, gaining about 800'. We were out just 3:55 total.
